  2. Tarvos: Universe - Classes What to expect from classes in BETA? This post is meant as a quick-peak overview to the initial classes and their categories in Tarvos: Universe. - Each class is balanced and has its own unique abilities, strengths and weaknesses. This allows players to strategically play whilst each following a unique and diverse storyline. This means that; NO - there are no overpowered classes. But plenty of space to find your own preferred playstyle. If you manage to master your playstyle, you'll find yourself in advantage during combat. Each category provides a light-weight, medium-weight and heavy-weight class. - Consider this your typical "tanks, fast DPS', healers type" layout. Knight: As the name suggests, these classes are very powerful at short range but don't be surprised if you do get nudged from a distance. Hunter: Effective from far, whether that's to oversee, provide assistance in a raid, or defend and stand ground in your own territory. Assassin: Sneaking up in the shadows, playing with the sound of silence. No need to blast and ring an alarm, just slow and steady.. Mage: Motioning with the art of life, bending the elements that surround us by nature.. This can be used for the good, to heal those you care about.. - Or the worse, total destruction of those that get in your way.

We will offer a very unique play experience to our players with loads of exciting, not-seen-before features such as the "clan totem", which acts as a clan their main control panel. Every once in a while, new seasons will be introduced. Each season comes with a new planet to travel to (unique server) and explore with completely new biomes made from scratch. This is made possible with the use of a dedicated database (instead of using a permissions plugin) and data-&-resourcepack usage. These planets offer new resources and recipes to craft items for your clan. We'd love to tell you more about Tarvos but for now we'll keep it at that! When is the server being released? We do not have an ETA for our full release yet. However, our closed BETA will launch on the 31st of March, 2022. What is the server IP? 7. Have you ever seen someone use amazingly-cool icons in-game? Well, if you want to start using these, feel free to take a look at the list that's supported by Minecraft. I tested these out myself. Highlight the symbol you want to copy; Press CTRL + c to copy; Paste with CTRL + v in game. (Mac computers use cmd instead of CTRL) Symbols: Corporate: Suits / Chess: Shapes: Blocks: Music Notes: Emoji: Alphabet: Astrology: Flowers: Hearts: Arrows: I probably missed a lot of the other options, feel free to add them to the comments below. I will update the list when possible.

  12. Hello! This post outlines the changes we've made to the backend of Tarvos server and its related services. It mainly relates to the methods of storing and retrieving data such as player information, server settings and more. Be warned, it's a bit technical. In the beginning of Tarvos' development, the team decided to go with storing data with something called Structured Query Language, commonly known as SQL. Essentially, this type of database is structured, which means we define the table and column names, and insert data into said tables and columns specifically. This type of data storage is generally fine, but eventually we felt like it became a bit outdated and hard to add new content on the fly. We started off by communicating with the database directly from our Core plugin that runs on each server. This ended up being a temporary solution due to both speed/processing and security concerns. Due to this, the legendary @Tom created a new solution for Tarvos, a custom web-based API that would process a query and return or take action on data using the common GET, POST, PUT and DELETE methods. This solution would give the Tarvos Realm data structured in a JSONObject, which is incredibly easy and simple to retrieve and store data. Due to this, it ended up being a lot more efficient for both server-load and speed, in addition to added security. Eventually, even though the API returned JSON data to the Tarvos Realms, storing data became more difficult for the things we wanted to do, mainly revolving around our upcoming Universe gamemodes. This is because SQL is limited by nature, and we wanted to add custom data that wasn't necessarily pre-defined in the database. In addition to this, we had multiple tables for player-related data, for example in order to load a player the API would retrieve a row of data from the following tables: - players - preferences - arcade_stats - punishments Having to do this ended up being messy and didn't really make sense, but there's simply no other way to do it in SQL. Thus, we decided to migrate to a different solution, called MongoDB. This solution is vastly different as it is unstructured, whereas SQL is structured. Instead of tables and columns, data is stored in JSONObjects. This means the API is getting a JSONObject and directly sending it to the Tarvos Realm, instead of converting it into one. This also means we can store all of the data from the multiple tables mentioned previously into one. This is way more efficient for updating and retrieving player information. We started experimenting with MongoDB early in the Universe development, but we have now recently migrated completely from SQL to MongoDB. You will not notice any changes on the surface, but under the hood the Tarvos backend has been reformed completely. As a result of this major update, we are clearing all player data. This includes your rank and balance. We are going to figure out the best way to restore all relevant ranks to players via Discord or in-game. Balances and other stuff like arcade stats will be reset, as there's not really a reason to keep them. Additionally, with this update, we will soon be giving all players the option to use two-factor authentication on Tarvos. This is optional, except for Staff Members. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! Cheers, James

  16. HAPPY NEW YEAR! We wish all of you the best for 2022, a year hopefully filled with more warmth from the people we love. We know it's not the new year just yet, but we figured it'd be the best time to reach you all, before you start celebrating.. All of you have joined our community, either through our applications or through an invite from one of our staff members. I also know that you are all excited to find out more about Tarvos: Universe, the gamemode we have been working on for 2 years. In those past 2 years we have put so much effort and time in all aspects of Tarvos: Universe; developing, building, designing, testing. It all started with a single document that had "community idea" written on it, all the way to thousands of documents, millions of lines of code, hundreds of models and designs. We're going to keep on working hard to push the limits of Minecraft and excite everyone to play on Tarvos. We're going to invest time to establish good relations with and amongst content creators in order to provide streamers with fun and engaging content, as well as a formfactor to drive more players into the community. We're fortunate to finally reveal our Closed BETA release date along with a list of features you can expect: Tarvos: Universe Closed BETA will be open & playable for invited members on the 31st of March, 2022. You will be able to create your own character entirely, including your planet of origin and class preference. Depending on your preferred playstyle, you can play as a lone wolf, join a clan or set up a clan of your own. - Be aware with picking your members, as classes have a strategic aspect, this will play a big role in PvP! There will be an immersive, interactive storyline that can be influenced based on decisions you make. E.G. your planet of origin, your class, and further character/skill development. - This means that not everyone will have the exact same storyline and/or quests, but very balanced nonetheless! There will be loads of custom mobs, landmarks, biomes and other features you can interact with and explore. You can request Closed BETA access here: https://tarvos-gaming.com/forums/index.php?/forms/12-closed-beta-registration-form/

  19. My reasoning behind choose hard difficulty: - Villagers only have a 50% change of being turn into zombie villager on normal but 100% on hard. - You can actually starve on hard which make it slightly more fun and exciting as food is way more needed. - A lot of mobs has cool effect on hard difficulty. Such as spiders can spawn with a random positive potion effect and zombies being able to break down your door.

  25. Hello there, I stole Mandelasa's layout! #PlagairismName: Jeremy (EvilTerabite) Age:20 (August 23rd, 2000)Pronouns: He/Him Basic history on me: I have owned and maintained many servers, and wanted to start a server just like Tarvos. When looking for people to hire for my server, I found Tarvos. I completely dropped the server and joined Tarvos as a Tester. Since becoming a tester, I expressed my interest in joining the development team. Upon meeting James and Tom they were leagues above me and I really wanted to learn how to code Java at a more advanced level. Since then I have learned a lot and I hope to keep developing for Tarvos! This whole community has been great and I can't wait to show everyone what we have been working on!Other hobbies: I am a an aspiring airline pilot, currently studying aviation in college. I have my private pilots license and I am working hard on my Commercial Pilots License. I am usually always on discord probably working on Tarvos, so just shoot me a DM and i'll definitely respond! 27. Hello, everyone! My name is JaconhiKK/Jaxon. I am 14 years of age and I play the euphonium as a hobby. I have made it to All-State once so far and I'm working to improve that record. I started to play Minecraft ever since the nether reactor core was a thing in Minecraft lite edition. What drew me into this server is because its not like your regular Hypixel or Wyncraft its different. The community is a really nice/welcoming little place that's what I like most about it. In the beginning of January I decided it was time to upgrade from a mac with a 5400 rpm drive to a Pc with a R7/3700x and a EVGA RTX 3070 FTW3 ULTRA. All I can say is it was verryyyy worth it especially for playing Minecraft with shaders. My dm's are always open If you need a good chat.

I’m 20 years old from California, andddddd...I’m a Capricorn, if that’s what you’re into. (that’s right, I manage your asses...jk. Okay not kidding but like...I promise to be gentle.) When I’m not gaming I’m horseback riding, training my dog, or creating original stories that I will never write. That said, I’ve been with Tarvos since February(?) of 2020. I have been doing Minecraft moderation work since I was 15, but team management is much more my style. A few of my other favorite games(as of rn) include Overwatch, Pokémon Sword, and Valorant. I play mostly on PC, but I came from PlayStation originally. I can’t think of much else to put here, but I hope everyone’s doing well! 30. Hello there! Name: My name is Mandelasa but it's shortened to Mande as most people aren't able to say Mandelasa. It's a name I made up when I was around 9 years old when I created my Minecraft account. Age: As of writing this I am 20 years old but my birthday is August 2nd which is in around a month. Pronouns: She/Her and They/Them Sexuality: Asexual Panromantic. Explanation of what both of those means: Asexual means that I do not get sexual attraction and therefore has no interest in it. Unlike celibacy, in which a person chooses to not do sexual acts usually for religious reasons, asexual people doesn't have the urge to do anything like that. Now asexuality is a spectrum so it's different from person to person. Panromantic means I'm romantically attracted to any gender. This includes transgenders, nonbinary, girls, etc.. I personally have made the choice to not date anymore Cis-gendered men as I'm less attracted to them. (Cis-gendered means people that goes by their gender assigned at birth) #Pride! Basic history on me: I'm Swedish and speak both Swedish and English but I prefer speaking English over Swedish as it's easier. English is my second language and even though I speak it fluently I still sometime struggle with grammar and spelling. If you ever notice me spelling something incorrectly please do correct me! Both my parents plays videos games so I grew up around games. The first big game I remember playing was WoW (World of Warcraft) at the ripe old age of 8. After that my dad introduced me to Minecraft when I was 9. Way back when it was classic and it was a website. I been playing Minecraft ever since then and haven't really taken a break since. Other hobbies: I love playing VR especially VRChat. I also love playing Subnatica and Subnatica Below Zero. Besides games I love being creative such as drawing and 3D modeling. I enjoy listening to music. My favorite genre is Alternative and current favorite band is Måneskin especially the songs "Coraline" "ZITTI E BUONI" and "I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE" If you ever have a question about me or curious what something means, feel free to ask!

  32. Hello, everyone. We're going to be working on the economy-side of the Universe game-mode soon. We would like your thoughts and suggestions on a few different ideas for purchasing and upgrading items. As of now, class abilities are activated by your class' primary weapon. This weapon can be upgraded to different tier levels (i.e. Iron -> Diamond, etc). Enchantments can also be forged onto the weapon, but not applied with an enchanting table. You CAN however purchase new weapons and combine them with your primary weapon. Enchantments on new weapons will be forged onto your primary weapon. In some circumstances, you may lose a level of enchanting depending on the new weapon's tier compared to your primary weapon. Upgrades to your class items (armour and weapon) can be done through a Clan Totem upgrade, or through a designated area in the Earth spawn area (more info on this later). This is where the shop stalls come in. We believe that the economy should be constantly updating with both pricing and availability of items. Essentially, we're not going to have every type of item available for purchase, and if they are available, there will be a limited stock. Once that stock runs out, another item may become available depending on other factors. The purpose of this is to make playing on Tarvos more challenging and to stimulate trading among players. What we are debating is how players can trade items. Here are the ideas we have in mind: - A player shop stall where items are categorised by item type, but all proceeds go to the player. - An auction house where a target bid can be set. - Direct player -> player trading through a command and GUI. Please let us know your thoughts or any suggestions for how we should approach player-based trading. Cheers! James

  33. Thank you for your reply. I like the moneysink idea with the lottery, this will definitely cause a boost in selling and purchasing items. The buyout option is also a good idea for the AH. Similar to IRL auctioning. In terms of player -> player trading, I have some ideas for it. Having a countdown after the trade is confirmed is a must, to both prevent scamming and to allow for last-second decisions. Cheers, James

  36. My thoughts: I think that we need a moneysink. Adding a small fee to open up shop, or offer an item could be a great way of doing so. Let's say that a diamond sword will cost about 100 points, maybe 7 of those points go towards Tarvos' bank. We could also get people to trade more, if selling items gives them a chance to join a small lottery. For every #amount# you sell, you get one ticket into the raffle. Having a chance to win some gems, simply by being part of the economy. I love the idea of auction houses. I would like to have a buyout option, as I know a lot of MC players aren't as patient as the fans following Tarvos right now. Let's say someone wants to sell their diamond sword for 1k and sets the buyout price at 1250, then another player can just decide, 'sure, I will buy it now', and make both players happy. I am really interested in seeing how this will become intuitive enough for people to do. There is not a lot of well-known plugins that promote p2p trading. I think you would need a VERY clean and intuitive GUI for this. Implement a timer as well, to prevent scamming via quick-trade. Example: after you click accept, it starts a five second timer, giving you five seconds to back out of the deal anyway. Or do it the RuneScape method, have two screens, one for the trade, and one for the confirm. Or both options.

  40. This looks INSANE. Last we talked about this, I remember thinking that if the game was good enough, I might just have to invest into a PS5 a lot earlier than I was planning to. This showcases some of the best features of gaming, to me. The graphics are gorgeous, the storyline looks compelling, and the movement physics look out of this world. That slide and jump off the rooftops was...chefs kiss. The overall aura of it all, with the lighting and the dialogue, is one that'll certainly pull players in and keep them playing. All in all...EEEEEEEEK!

  41. Hello, in my personal opinion as a start for a new server there shouldn't be too many Donator ranks, I would add 5 or 6 ranks to make it easier and more simple to make, here is my suggested list related to the space theme: Earth - Default rank Mercury - 5$ Venus - 10$ Mars - 20$ Jupiter - 30$ Saturn - 40$ Sun - 50$ Other planets or names related to space could be added in the future for additional Donator ranks or from special events. Hope I've been helpful for you ;)!

  43. I think we could do ranks like the divine chain of being (The Great Chain of Being is a hierarchical structure of all matter and life, Thought to be decreed by God, in medieval time) So the ranks from the highest rank downwards: God/Devils Angel/Demons King/Queen Nobles Assassin Simple The last two ranks may need adjustment but it would go something like this. Do give me advice, thanks for reading!

  49. I forgot to mention that Mongo is much faster than SQL. Mongo or NoSQL in general is much newer than SQL. SQL has been around for ages. Some people don't like change. Migration is costly and hard in most cases. Mongo is about availability of data whereas SQL is about consistency i.e: ACID (Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation & Durability) A lot of tutorials will get programmers using SQL initially, i.e PHP tutorials

  50. Nice to meet you, Melt! What started me playing Minecraft was probably the Youtuber's I watched playing it. They were all so deep into their game experiences, and having so much fun with each other I suppose you could say it just called me. I have to say that both the communities and creative aspect of Minecraft make it what I enjoy. Minecraft truly wouldn't be Minecraft without its communities. I'm not actually sure what Youtuber I watched, as it was most likely when I was five years old. Cool introduction, good to know!
